Overcoming Complex Roof Constraints with Smart Design: A Recent Solar & Battery Installation
Every solar installation comes with its own unique set of challenges. For one of our recent residential projects, our team had to engineer a solution for a property featuring minimal south-facing roof space, a short gutter-to-ridge length, and traditional Rosemary clay tiles.
Despite these spatial limitations, our expert design and high-efficiency hardware enabled us to deliver a robust, high-performing 7.32 kWp solar and storage system built to last.
Tackling Roof Challenges with Multi-Aspect Design
With limited south-facing space, we designed an East-South-West multi-aspect configuration. This layout allows the system to generate clean energy over an extended period—starting early in the morning on the east array and finishing late into the evening on the west.
To combat potential shading issues across the east and west arrays, we integrated Tigo optimisers, ensuring maximum energy harvest from every individual panel.
Maximizing Power in Minimal Space
To squeeze the highest possible yield out of a compact roof area, we specified the powerful 665W AIKO Stellar 3 modules. Careful layout planning and high-density panel selection allowed us to achieve an impressive 7.32 kWp total system capacity without compromising the property’s aesthetics.
Robust, Leak-Free Mounting on Rosemary Clay Tiles
Rosemary clay tiles are notoriously fragile and challenging to mount solar hardware onto securely. To protect the roof’s integrity, we engineered a meticulous mounting solution using the Renusol configurator:
-
Deks Tileflash was installed in place of the standard tiles directly beneath the roof hooks, preventing tile cracking caused by hook movement or flex.
-
Genius flashing kits were fitted above the hooks, with surrounding tiles neatly trimmed.
-
This combination creates a resilient, watertight mounting system designed to safeguard the roof’s structural integrity for decades to come.
Intelligent Energy Storage with Sigenergy
To complete the setup, we coupled the solar array with the market-leading Sigenergy storage system, featuring 20 kWh of energy storage. Powered by advanced AI system control, the setup dynamically optimizes energy usage, maximises self-consumption, and delivers maximum savings for the homeowner.
