Our Largest and Most Advanced Residential Solar Installation to Date

This project represents our largest residential solar installation to date and, without question, one of the most technologically advanced systems we have delivered.

The system comprises a 9.9 kWp solar array installed on a bespoke Solarport ground-mounted framework, designed specifically for the site and positioned within a large private garden. The installation features 18 Aiko Neostar Gen 3 550W modules, renowned for their industry-leading performance and excellent partial shading capabilities.

Before work could commence, the project required a complex planning application due to its proximity to local airport flight paths. Following careful design and consultation, approval was secured, allowing the installation to proceed.

The garden contains several mature trees that create intermittent shading throughout the day. To maximise energy harvest under these conditions, we specified Aiko’s partial shading optimisation technology alongside Tigo optimisers across the array. This combination ensures the system continues to perform efficiently and captures every possible watt of available solar energy, even when sections of the array are partially shaded.

To provide complete visibility of system performance, a Tigo Cloud Connect Advanced (CCA) monitoring platform was installed. This delivers panel-level monitoring, allowing the homeowner to view the performance of each individual module in real time and enabling rapid fault identification and enhanced system diagnostics.

At the heart of the installation is the impressive Sigenergy energy storage system, comprising an 8 kW hybrid inverter and a substantial 30 kWh battery storage capacity. This advanced setup enables the homeowner to maximise self-consumption of solar energy while also taking advantage of off-peak electricity tariffs and intelligent energy management.

The system is currently enrolled in the Octopus Intelligent Virtual Power Plant (VPP) programme, allowing intelligent charging and discharging of the battery in response to electricity market conditions. This will deliver exceptional savings throughout the darker autumn and winter months, while the extensive solar array will come into its own during spring and summer, generating significant amounts of renewable energy and further reducing grid dependence.

This installation showcases how careful system design, premium equipment selection, and intelligent energy management can combine to deliver outstanding performance, resilience, and long-term savings for homeowners seeking the very best in renewable energy technology.
